Rare Hamilton “Sherwood S” men’s Retro Modern design wristwatch in 10K yellow gold fill with wood dial, circa 1962.

After some significant research and development, Hamilton offered a few select models of its regular watch line upgraded with genuine wood dials in 1961 and 1962. These striking watches apparently were not popular with consumers and very few were sold. All the wood-dialed watches were dropped from the Hamilton line after 1962 and consequently they are quite rare today. This “Sherwood S” has a dial of teakwood and was based on the “Bentley” model, priced at $79.50 in 1962. The “Sherwood S” was offered only in 1962 (in contrast to some of the other models which were offered in 1961 and 1962) and this is the only example I have ever offered. It is in excellent condition showing only light brassing to the bezel corners. Caseback is very good and unengraved, with a little wear underneath the crown and a tiny spot of wear in each corner. Case measures 35mm long and 24mm wide. Original wood dial is superb and has solid 14K gold applied numerals and markers. Has new acrylic crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 22-jewel Hamilton grade 770 manual wind movement, just serviced and running well.
