Scarce Elgin “Aztec” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in chromium nickel, circa 1931.
Elgin catalogued this watch as the “Senior 952” but its fantastic geometric black-inlaid bezel designs reminiscent of the carvings on ancient Aztec temples in Mexico has inspired most collectors to dub it the “Aztec.” It is a very difficult watch to find and among the most desirable of all Art Deco Elgin wristwatches. This example is in excellent condition showing almost no wear to the chromium plating on the bezel. The caseback is very good, with some plating loss and some scratches. The case measures 35mm long and 25mm wide. Refinished dial is superb. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 7-jewel Elgin grade 488 manual wind movement, just serviced and running well.
