Scarce Elgin “Clubman 1601” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in solid 14K white gold, circa 1931.

Early solid gold men’s Elgin wristwatches are quite scarce, as the company focused its marketing efforts on lower cost gold-filled and nickel cased watches. The “Model 1601” has a simple barrel-shaped case with Art Deco engravings around the sides and sold for $50.00 in 1931. The dial has unique silver embossed exploding numerals set against a subtle sand-textured yellow gold background. It is in excellent condition showing only slight wear. Caseback is excellent and unengraved, with one small dent. Case measures 34mm long and 27mm wide. Original dial is excellent. Has new glass crystal. The watch has a 19-jewel Elgin grade 499 movement.
