Scarce Elgin “Aztec” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in chromium nickel, circa 1931.
Elgin catalogued this watch as the “Senior 952” but its fantastic geometric black-inlaid bezel designs reminiscent of the carvings on ancient Aztec temples in Mexico has caused most collectors to dub it the “Aztec.” It is a very difficult watch to find and among the most desirable of all Art Deco Elgin wristwatches. This example is in excellent condition showing no wear to the chromium plating on the bezel. The caseback is excellent and unengraved with some scratches. The case measures 35mm long and 25mm wide. Original dial is very good with some scratches. Has new glass crystal. This watch has a 7-jewel Elgin grade 488 movement.
