Elgin “Marshal Ferdinand Foch” men’s Military design semi-hermetic wristwatch in nickel, circa 1918.

Like most other American watch manufacturers, Elgin was keen to realize the marketing potential of a military-style wristwatch during World War I, and introduced several models named for famous military men. This example model was named for French Marshal Ferdinand Jean Marie Foch, who was Marshal of France and Supreme Commander of the Allied Armies in 1918. It was priced at $18.50 in 1918. This is the semi-hermetic version of this case style and has a screw on bezel and case back, the same as issued by the U.S. Army. It is in excellent condition showing only light wear. Caseback is excellent and unengraved, with one ding. Interior of case still shows original black anodized finish. Case measures 42mm long and 32mm wide. Original 48-star black porcelain dial is superb, with no cracks or chips. Has new glass crystal. Watch is powered by its correct 7-jewel Elgin grade 462 movement.
