Very scarce Hamilton “Vancott” men’s Streamline Moderne design wristwatch in solid 10K yellow gold and stainless steel, circa 1946.

Not shown in any of Hamilton’s regular catalogs, some internal factory information indicates the “Vancott” was originally proposed during World War II as an officer’s model wristwatch, but its release was delayed until after the war ended. With its solid gold bezel and steel caseback, the “Vancott” was the first Hamilton to use two dissimilar metals in its case composition. Hamilton factory records show that 2,918 were produced, but there is also information indicating that far fewer were actually released for sale. This example is in excellent condition showing only light wear. Lug is marked “10K” on the underside. The steel caseback is excellent and unengraved. The case measures 35mm long and 29mm wide. Refinished dial is superb, and has solid 18K gold applied numerals. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 17-jewel Hamilton grade 987S hacking movement.

Price $300.
