Scarce Hamilton “Andrews” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in solid 14K yellow gold, circa 1933.

The “Andrews” has a fantastic Art Deco Machine Age stepped case and an extremely low production of only 1,138 watches in yellow gold. This is the first “Andrews” I have offered in several years. Housing the unique 19-jewel Hamilton grade 401 movement (based on the Illinois grade 207 movement), the “Andrews” was part of a series of watches named for famous explorers, in this case for Roy Chapman Andrews, discoverer of dinosaur fossils in the Gobi Desert and the reputed inspiration for the movie character Indiana Jones. An extraordinarily expensive wristwatch for the Great Depression, the “Andrews” was priced to consumers at $110.00 in 1933. This example is in crisp, excellent condition showing almost no wear, with well-defined corners and steps. The caseback is excellent and unengraved. The case measures 37mm long by 23mm wide. Aged dial is excellent. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 19-jewel Hamilton grade 401 rectangular adjusted movement.
