Scarce Elgin “Military Watch” men’s Military design wristwatch in nickel, circa 1918.

Like most other American watch manufacturers, Elgin was keen to realize the marketing potential of a military-style wristwatch immediately after World War I, and introduced several models. This version was aimed at “sportsmen, motorists, golfers, athletes and army and navy men,” and was priced at $13.40 in 1918. This example is in excellent condition with the nickel case showing only modetrate wear. Caseback is very good and unengraved, with some scratches and dings. Case measures 43mm long and 31mm wide. Original silvered dial with red “12” is very good, with some patina. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 7 jewel Elgin grade 462 movement.
