Rare Elgin “Joseph Priestley” men’s Streamline Moderne design doctor’s wristwatch in 10K yellow gold fill, circa 1940.

Named for the famed English philosopher and theologian who discovered oxygen, Joseph Priestley (1733 to 1804), this duo-dial doctor’s model is very rare… much rarer than its Hamilton contemporary, the “Seckron.” I've seen dozens and dozens each of Hamilton and Gruen doctor's watches, but this is one of only a handful I've ever seen of this Elgin model, and is the only example I have ever offered. It was priced at $45.00 in 1940. The movement and crown are offset in the case to accommodate the unique dial configuration containing the two dials. It is in excellent condition showing only very slight brassing to the highpoints of the bezel. Caseback is superb and unengraved. Case measures 44mm long and 20mm wide. Original dial is superb. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 17 jewel Elgin grade 537 movement.
