Rare Elgin “Model 140” men’s Streamline Moderne design wristwatch in solid 14K white gold, circa 1928.

This is the first factory-cased solid gold men’s Elgin wristwatch and first appeared in advertisements and catalogs around 1928, priced at $100.00. Elgin’s appeal to consumers during the 1920s and the Great Depression was with low-cost chrome and gold-filled watches. Consequently, solid gold Elgins from this time period are quite rare. This example is in excellent condition, showing only very slight wear. Caseback is superb and unengraved. Original dial is excellent, has gold embossed numerals. Has new glass crystal. Case measures 36mm long and 24mm wide. The watch is powered by its correct 17 jewel Elgin grade 483 adjusted movement.
