Rare Elgin “Model 1659” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in solid 14K yellow gold, circa 1935.

This case design is most often seen in gold fill, but it was also available in solid gold for one year only (1935), priced at $75.00. It contained Elgin’s last and finest 6/0-size movement, the 19-jewel grade 499. It is quite rare, with this being only the second one I have ever seen. It has a dramatically flared and stepped case. It is crisp, near mint condition showing no wear with sharp case edges. Caseback is superb and unengraved, with a couple of tiny dings. The case measures 40mm long and 27mm wide. Original two-tone dial is very good, has gold embossed numerals. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 19-jewel Elgin grade 499 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
