Rare Lord Elgin “50 Million” men’s Retro Modern design commemorative wristwatch in solid 18K yellow gold, circa 1951.

To commemorate its accumulated production of 50,00,000 watches since its founding in 1867, Elgin introduced this special limited edition watch in a massive solid 18K gold case with a unique gold-plated movement and solid gold hands. Production was limited to just 1,000 watches and it was priced at a whopping $500.00 in 1951. This example is number 101 out of 1,000. It is in excellent condition showing only light wear. The hinged lugs are excellent with no damage. Caseback is excellent and unengraved. The case measures 41mm long and 26mm wide, and contains 19 grams of solid 18K gold, making it the heaviest gold watch Elgin ever produced. Original dial is very good, showing some moderate patina. Has new domed glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 21-jewel Elgin grade 670 special gold-plated movement with its original heavy gold-clad crown, just serviced and running strong.
